Manic Hispanic: Ventura Music Hall - Ventura, CA - 4/30/26
Manic Hispanic is a Chicano punk rock band from Orange County and Los Angeles, California. They are a comedy act who perform cover/parody songs from popular punk rock songs but change the lyrics to match the Chicano lifestyle. They went on a small West Coast tour to promote their new self-titled sixth album which was released on May 5, 2026. One of the stops on the tour was at the Ventura Music Hall in Ventura, California.
Manic Hispanic came out and started their show with "Wasted." The first thing you'll notice is how the band members are all wearing clothing that represents the Chicano, cholo and Barrio lifestyle. With such high energy, the audience quickly went into a frenzy and started moshing. After a short opening song, they next played "Mas Chingones." The members are very interactive on stage as they dance, jump around, and mess with each other often making comedic scenes. The third song was "I Want Some Chon Chon" and is a parody of "I Just Want Some Skank" by punk rock legends Circle Jerks. Whether it's the music or the band's antics, you're guaranteed to have a fun time either moshing or just laughing at how the band is on stage. Other songs in their set included "Holding Cell," "Teardrop On My Eye," "Chancla Abuser," and "Naranjo" (Orange). At one point, Vocalist Louie removed his shirt, and it was accidentally thrown into the audience leaving him shirtless for the rest of the show. One of the highlights of the set was when they played "She Turned into Llorona" which is a parody of "I Turned into a Martian" by horror punk legends Misfits. Their set came to an end with "Paisa" and Manic Hispanic left the stage after that. After a few minutes of cheering, they came back out for a couple of encores. The encores were “Manic Hispanic” and ended their set with the catchy “Rudy Cholo.” They are a great band to see live, and it’s highly encouraged to see them if they happen to come to your area.
